Samsung Dishwasher Warranty: How Long It Lasts and How to Check Your Coverage
Samsung dishwashers sold in the US are covered for one year on parts and labor. Beyond that, Samsung publishes longer parts-only coverage on two components: the stainless steel tub and the wash motor, with the motor commonly carrying ten years.
There is an important condition attached that does not apply to most other Samsung appliances. On several dishwasher lines the extended component coverage requires you to register the product within 30 days of purchase and to have installed it according to Samsung's published guidelines. Miss the registration window and you can lose the long tier entirely while keeping the standard year.
If you have just bought a Samsung dishwasher, registering it is genuinely the highest-value five minutes available to you. If you bought it some time ago and never registered, check your model's specific terms before assuming you have ten-year motor coverage.
Only Samsung can confirm that, because only Samsung holds the record. Use the official links below with your serial number for the real-time answer. Everything here is context to help you ask the right question.
How long is a Samsung dishwasher under warranty?
| What's covered | How long | What it actually pays for |
|---|---|---|
| Whole dishwasher | 1 year | Parts and labor for defects in materials or workmanship under normal household use. |
| Stainless steel tub | 3 years (some lines longer with registration) | The tub part only, against defects. Labor is not included after year one. Longer tub coverage on certain lines is conditional on registering within 30 days. |
| Wash motor | 10 years | The motor part only. Installation and labor are your cost. On several lines this tier is conditional on registration within 30 days of purchase. |
Register within 30 days if your model's extended tiers require it. Samsung's registration page is the same one used for all their appliances, and it takes the model code, serial number and purchase date.
Installation matters more for dishwashers than for most appliances, because a great many warranty declines trace to installation rather than the machine. The unit has to be level, plumbed to code, properly secured to the counter or cabinet, and — the one most often skipped — the drain hose has to be routed with a high loop or air gap so waste water cannot siphon back into the tub.
Warranty service must be performed by a Samsung authorized service center, and you will need a dated proof of purchase.
Hard water scale and detergent residue are maintenance issues, not defects. A dishwasher that cleans poorly because the spray arms are blocked with scale is not a warranty claim, and a technician visit for that will be billed to you.
Where to find the serial number on a Samsung dishwasher
Every warranty claim starts with this number, and on most products it is somewhere non-obvious. Here is where to look, in the order most likely to work.
- Inner rim of the doorOpen the door and look along the top edge of the inner door panel, or down the right or left side of the rim. This is where Samsung most often places the rating label on dishwashers.
- Inside edge of the tub openingIf the door rim has no label, check the inside edge of the tub itself, on either the right or left side, at the point the door seals against.
- On the installation paperworkThe model code appears on the retailer's delivery and installation documentation, which is easier than reaching into an installed machine.
The label sits in a spot that is repeatedly wetted and heated, and printed labels there fade faster than anywhere else in a kitchen. Photograph it during installation.
A flashlight genuinely helps — the door rim is a shadowed area even in a well-lit kitchen.

What the Samsung warranty does not cover
These are the exclusions that cause real claims to be declined. They are worth reading before you call, because knowing which category your problem falls into changes the conversation.
- Improper installation — an unlevelled unit, plumbing outside local code, or a drain hose without a high loop or air gap
- Water damage to cabinets, flooring or the ceiling below caused by a leak; the warranty covers the appliance only
- Hard water scale, detergent residue and poor cleaning performance caused by maintenance rather than a defect
- Damage from using the wrong detergent, including hand dish soap, which causes overflowing suds
- Clearing food debris, glass fragments or foreign objects from the filter or pump
- Cosmetic damage to the door panel, handle or control fascia
- Racks and tines damaged by wear, and rust on rack coating caused by chipping
- Repairs by anyone other than a Samsung authorized servicer
- Commercial use rather than normal single-family household use
Is an extended warranty worth it?
Before buying any plan, register the dishwasher. On lines where the long motor and tub coverage is registration-conditional, registering gets you years of coverage for free that a plan would otherwise be charging you for.
After that, the honest gap is the same as with any dishwasher: control boards, door latches, heating elements and circulation pumps are covered only in year one, and those are the realistic failure points. A plan covering years two and three is buying coverage on things that do actually break.
Set that against the replacement cost. Dishwashers are among the cheaper major appliances to replace, and a multi-year plan can easily reach a third of the price of a new unit. If the plan cost approaches that, self-insuring is a defensible choice.
Common questions
Do I have to register my Samsung dishwasher to get the 10-year motor warranty?
On several Samsung dishwasher lines, yes — registration within 30 days of purchase is a published condition of the extended component coverage, along with installation per Samsung's guidelines. The standard one-year warranty applies either way. Check the warranty sheet for your specific model.
My Samsung dishwasher is not draining. Is that covered?
It depends on the cause. A failed drain pump inside the first year is a warranty repair. A drain hose blocked with food debris, or a hose routed without a high loop so water siphons back, is a maintenance and installation issue and will be billed to you.
Does Samsung cover rust inside the dishwasher?
Rust on the stainless tub caused by a defect falls under the tub coverage. Rust on the racks, which normally starts where the coating has chipped and exposed the metal underneath, is treated as wear and is not covered.
Can I install a Samsung dishwasher myself and keep the warranty?
Yes, self-installation does not void the warranty by itself — but the installation has to meet Samsung's instructions and local plumbing and electrical code. If a failure traces back to how it was installed, that repair is not covered regardless of who did the work.
