Samsung TV Warranty: How Long It Lasts and How to Check Your Coverage
Samsung televisions sold in the United States carry a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor from the original date of purchase. That single tier applies across the current range — Crystal UHD, QLED, Neo QLED, OLED and The Frame. There is no longer panel warranty on Samsung consumer TVs the way there is on some competing OLED lines.
How the repair happens depends on screen size. For sets of roughly 37 inches and larger Samsung generally arranges in-home service, because shipping a large panel is impractical. For smaller sets you are typically responsible for getting the TV to and from an authorized service center, and that transport cost is yours.
The exclusion that catches most people is physical screen damage. A cracked or pressure-damaged panel is treated as accidental damage, not a manufacturing defect, and a panel replacement often costs more than the TV is worth. Nothing in the standard warranty covers it.
Only Samsung can confirm that, because only Samsung holds the record. Use the official links below with your serial number for the real-time answer. Everything here is context to help you ask the right question.
How long is a Samsung tv under warranty?
| What's covered | How long | What it actually pays for |
|---|---|---|
| Whole television | 1 year | Parts and labor for defects in materials and workmanship. In-home service is typical on larger screen sizes; you carry smaller sets to an authorized service center. |
| Parts replaced under warranty | 90 days from repair | A repaired or replaced part is warranted for 90 days after the service, or for the balance of the original year if that is longer. |
Coverage starts on the original date of purchase, not the date you unboxed it. If you bought during a sale and did not set the TV up for two months, those two months still count against the year.
The warranty is valid only on products purchased and used in the United States. A set bought abroad and brought over is not covered by the US warranty, and regional model variants can be difficult to service here at all.
Samsung publishes warranty status inside the TV itself. On most recent models: Settings, then Support, then Contact Samsung, where the warranty and serial details are displayed on screen. This is by far the easiest route if the TV still powers on.
Burn-in and image retention on OLED panels are treated as a consequence of use rather than a defect and are excluded. If you leave a static news ticker or a game HUD on screen for hours daily, that risk sits with you.
Where to find the serial number on a Samsung tv
Every warranty claim starts with this number, and on most products it is somewhere non-obvious. Here is where to look, in the order most likely to work.
- In the on-screen menuSettings, then Support, then About This TV or Contact Samsung. The model code and serial number are shown directly. This is the most reliable method and does not involve moving the TV.
- Sticker on the back of the cabinetLook at the rear panel, usually toward the lower left when facing the back of the set. Samsung prints a white or silver label with the model code, serial number and power ratings.
- On the original box and receiptSamsung prints the serial number on a barcode label on the carton. If the TV is wall-mounted and the menu is unreachable, the box — or the retailer's order confirmation email — is the easiest source.
Samsung TV model codes encode the year of the range. In a code like QN65QN90DAFXZA, the letter before the trailing FXZA marks the model generation, which is useful when you are trying to establish how old a set actually is.
If the TV is wall-mounted, pull the serial from the on-screen menu before you take it down. It saves an awkward job.

What the Samsung warranty does not cover
These are the exclusions that cause real claims to be declined. They are worth reading before you call, because knowing which category your problem falls into changes the conversation.
- Cracked, chipped or pressure-damaged screens — treated as accidental damage regardless of how the damage occurred
- Burn-in and image retention on OLED panels
- Damage from power surges, lightning strikes and electrical faults in your home
- Cosmetic damage to the bezel, stand or back panel that does not affect performance
- Damage caused by improper wall mounting or by the TV falling
- Repairs attempted by anyone other than a Samsung authorized servicer
- Signal problems that originate outside the TV, such as a failing cable box, weak antenna or slow internet connection
- Commercial or display use — a TV running in a shop, bar or waiting room is generally outside the consumer warranty
- Software issues caused by apps and streaming services rather than the TV's own firmware
Is an extended warranty worth it?
Samsung Care+ and retailer plans both extend TV coverage, and for televisions the calculation is different from appliances. Modern TVs either fail early from a manufacturing defect — which the first year already covers — or they fail from physical damage, which no standard extension covers either unless the plan specifically includes accidental damage.
If you are going to buy anything, buy accidental damage coverage rather than a plain extension, and only if the set is expensive enough that replacing it would genuinely hurt. For a mid-range TV, the plan cost over three years often approaches the cost of simply replacing the set.
Check your credit card first. Many cards extend a manufacturer's warranty by a year automatically on purchases made with the card, at no cost.
Common questions
Does Samsung cover a cracked TV screen under warranty?
No. Physical screen damage is excluded as accidental damage, whatever the cause. Only a plan that explicitly includes accidental damage protection will cover it, and it has to be bought before the damage happens.
Is OLED burn-in covered on a Samsung TV?
No. Samsung treats image retention and burn-in as a result of how the panel was used rather than a manufacturing defect, so it falls outside the limited warranty.
How do I check my Samsung TV warranty without the receipt?
Pull the serial number from Settings, Support, About This TV, then enter it into Samsung's warranty lookup. Samsung can often establish the purchase or activation date from their own records, though a dated receipt is still the strongest evidence if a claim is disputed.
Will Samsung come to my house to repair the TV?
For screens around 37 inches and larger, in-home service is the normal route. Below that, expect to transport the set to an authorized service center at your own cost.
