Samsung Washing Machine Warranty: How Long It Lasts and How to Check Your Coverage

Samsung washers sold in the US are covered for one year on parts and labor across the whole machine, with two longer parts-only tiers layered on top: three years on the stainless steel tub, and a long motor warranty that runs to twenty years on models fitted with a Digital Inverter Motor, or ten years on direct-drive models.

The twenty-year figure is the one Samsung advertises, and it is real — but it is parts only, and it covers only the motor. A washer's most common failures are not motor failures. Door locks, drain pumps, control boards, bearings and shock absorbers all sit outside every tier except the first year.

So the practical answer for most owners is that a Samsung washer is comprehensively covered for one year, and after that you are covered for a small number of specific components with the labor bill left to you.

Which motor tier you have depends on the model. Samsung publishes the applicable terms on the warranty sheet packed with the machine and on the product page, so check yours rather than assuming the twenty-year figure applies.

Coverage requires installation, operation and maintenance according to Samsung's instructions. For a washer that specifically includes removing the shipping bolts before first use and levelling the machine. A washer that has been run with the transit bolts still fitted, or that has walked across the floor because it was never levelled, will show damage a technician can identify immediately.

The warranty is valid only on machines purchased and used in the United States, and warranty service must go through a Samsung authorized service center.

Overloading, and using non-HE detergent in an HE machine, both cause damage Samsung treats as misuse rather than defect. Excess suds in particular can damage the control board and the pump.

If the washer is stacked under a dryer or built into a closet, get the number from the door frame rather than the back panel — you will not be moving the machine easily.

Photograph the label when the machine is installed. Door-frame labels sit in a wet environment and become hard to read within a few years.

Samsung Care+ and retailer plans cover washers, and the honest case for one is narrower than the sales pitch. The parts that genuinely fail on modern washers — drain pumps, door locks, bearings, control boards — are covered only in year one, so an extension does buy real coverage on real failure points.

Weigh it against the repair cost, though. A drain pump or a door lock is a modest bill. A bearing failure is the expensive one, and it is also the one where a technician is most likely to conclude the machine is not economic to repair. If a plan is priced at a meaningful fraction of a new washer, the arithmetic is not compelling.

The long motor warranty is worth remembering when you are quoted for a repair after year one. If the diagnosis is the motor, the part should be free — make sure the servicer knows the machine is still inside the motor coverage period, and confirm the claim through Samsung rather than paying up front.
